12/6/2019 8:51 PMResults from the Statewide Latin Convention

Before Thanksgiving break, 25 Latin students attended the statewide Latin Convention in Richmond. While there, students compete in academic, artistic, and oratorical contests in between lectures, certamina, a dance, reenactments, and a Roman banquet.

Our kids did OUTSTANDING this year, and I thought you all might like to see the results. These are statewide contests against students from all over Virginia, so they are pretty neat contests to place in.

Art

- Olivia Gibson, 2nd place in jewelry making

- Karina Long, 2nd place in the poster contest

- Rosie Dougherty-Herrmann, 2nd place in textiles

- Emma Blackman, 3rd in photography

- Ellis Lucas, 3rd in illustrations

- 4 other students placed in the top 10 in their category

Oratory

- Maggie Kauffman, 2nd in Latin Oratory (she had to memorize an authentic Latin speech and recite it before a panel of judges!)

Academics

- Ellis Lucas, 6th in Roman Life

- Samuel Stoke, 7th in both Latin Mottoes and Geography

- Rosie Dougherty-Herrmann, 3rd in Latin Literature
