Speaking two languages at an early age has tremendous social and academic benefits for children. Our school took the initiative to build upon our FLES (Foreign Language in the Elementary School) program to pilot a two-way Spanish immersion program in the 2014-2015 school year. Our goals were to provide eduational equity for English Learners as well as create a bilingual community in our school. Since 2014, the program has expanded to three or four immersion classes per grade level. We believe that giving our students this opportunity, whether through immersion or FLES, will mold our young learners into global citizens.
