Listed below are brief details of scholarships and procedures for applying. If you have further questions after visiting the scholarship website, check with Mr. Southall (asouthall@k12albemarle.org) in the School Counseling Office.

DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE TO REQUEST TRANSCRIPT: FIVE WORKING DAYS MUST BE ALLOWED FOR PROCESSING OF TRANSCRIPTS.​

Every student should visit the colleges they are planning on applying. Sometimes finances get in the way of that process. Several colleges have programs designed to assist students with covering the financial burden of visiting a school. Harry Byrd Leadership Scholarship

Amount: $10,000
Deadline: Must notify Mr. Southall of your interest by Oct. 8, 2017
Applicants must be graduating seniors who have excelled in the classroom and have a demonstrated record of leadership. Monticello is able to nominate 1 senior from the graduating class for this award. Our nominee will compete with other nominees from around the state. Interested students must notify Mr. Southall in the counseling office by Oct. 8th to be considered for this award.

UNC-Charlotte Levine Scholarship

Amount: full tuition, room/board, books, tuition for summer experiences, research opportunities, and mandatory fees
Deadline: See your school counselor to be nominated by October 7, 2017
Applicants must be graduating high school seniors who demonstrate commitment to community service, hold an academic record that reflects a sustained passion for knowledge, and posses a capacity for ethical leadership that elevates fellow students to a higher standard. Students must be nominiated by a Monticello School Counselor to be considered.

University of Dayton

Amount: $10,000
Deadline: Must Notify Mr. Southall (counseling office) in writing of your interest to be considered for the school nomination by October 20, 2017. Monticello can nominate one student to be considered for this award. Applicants must be a graduating senior who is strong in academics, have a demonstrated record of service and leadership, and a passion for personal development.

Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act

Amount: Tuition for job related training
The program is a federally funded program that provides money for low income individuals ages 17 – 24 years old who are in need of financial support to pay for classes and training.

National DAR Scholarship

Horatio Alger Association Career and Technical Scholarship Program

Amount: $2,500
Deadline: June 15, 2017
Applicants must be current high school seniors who plan to enroll in a career and technical degree/certificate granting program in the fall of 2017 that will lead to employment. Applicants must complete high school on time and demonstrate financial need. Applicants must be Pell Grant eligible, under the age of 30, and a United States Citizen. Applications can be found here. African American Heritage Scholarship

Amount: $250.00
Deadline: June 16, 2017
Applicants must be a graduating senior from Monticello High School who plans to enroll in college. Applicant must have already been accepted into a college and be able to provide proof of that acceptance. Applicants must complete the full application, provide a recommendation letter, provide proof of college acceptance, and complete the 1 page essay addressing how the applicant's future career will be beneficial to the African American Community.

Carl. “Chubby” Proffitt Jr. Scholarship provided by the FALCON Club of Charlottesville

Amount: $5,000
Deadline: July 1, 2017
Applicants must attend one of the area high schools: Albemarle, Blue Ridge, Charlottesville, Covenant, Fluvanna, Fork Union, Louisa, Monticello, Orange, St. Anne’s’ Belfield, Western Albemarle, William Monroe, and Woodberry Forest. Applicant must be a graduating senior who plans to enroll in a college or university in the fall after high school graduation. The scholarship is primarily a needs-based award supported by academic performance, athletic participation and achievement, involvement in community, civic and/or extracurricular activities, and personal recommendations. Quest Bridge Scholarship

Amount: Full Scholarship to 29 different colleges around the country
Deadline: Sept. 27, 2017
Quest Bridge is a competitive scholarship that seeks out the brightest and most accomplished seniors from underrepresented populations at college. Minorities, first generation college students, and students from families with low socioeconomic situations are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be US Citizens or permanent residents. Applicants must have an SAT or PSAT score of 1310 or higher or an ACT composite score of 28.

Jefferson Scholars-Monticello Nominee

Amount: Full Scholarship to UVA
Deadline: Must notify Mr. Southall in the counseling office by Sept. 30 2017 of your interest in being considered for this award
Monticello is able to nominate one student for the Jefferson Scholar Program. Our singular nominee will compete for entry into the Jefferson Scholars Program at the University of Virginia. Nominees must have strong academics, an outstanding resume of activities, and demonstrate leadership either in or outside the school community. If you have questions, see Mr. Southall in the counseling office. Applicants must provide a resume to be considered.

Belk Scholarship

Amount: Full Scholarship to Davidson College
Deadline: Must notify Mr. Southall in the counseling office by Sept. 30, 2017 of your interest in being considered for this award
Monticello is able to nominate one student for the Belk Scholarship Program. Our singular nominee will compete for entry into the Belk Scholarship Program at the Davidson College. Nominees must have strong academics, an outstanding resume of activities, and demonstrate leadership either in or outside the school community. Emily Couric Leadership Award

Amount: $5,000
Deadline: Must notify Mr. Southall in the counseling office by Sept. 30 2017 of your interest in being considered for this award
Monticello is able to nominate one female senior from the graduating class for the Emily Couric Leadership Award. Our nominee wins a $5,000 scholarship and is then entered into a larger $30,000 scholarship contest through the Emily Couric Leadership Forum. Potential nominees must be senior female students who have demonstrated strong academics, high test scores (ACT or SAT accepted), demonstrated leadership activity among the school and community, and maintained a high level of integrity.

Saint Augustine Scholarship-Villanova University

Amount: $15,000
Deadline: Dec 1, 2017
Applicants must embody the ideals of Villanova University: Truth, Unity, Love through extracurricular involvement and life experiences. Applicants must apply for either early action or early decision application deadlines to be considered. Qualified applicants will be notified by Villanova admissions office of their opportunity to apply.

Dingledine Scholarships

Amount: $10,878

Applicants must be graduating high school seniors who plan to attend James Madison University and who demonstrate excellence in academic achievement, leadership, and community service.

George Mason University Scholarships

Freshman scholarships are determined based on student academic achievement in high school, student talents, and other personal characteristics. Financial need is not a factor in GMU scholarship determinations.

Central VA Electric Cooperative Scholarship

Amount: $1,000
Deadline: Feb. 6, 2018
Applicants must be a graduating senior who is planning to attend a college or university in the fall of 2018. Applicants must live in a home that is served by the Central VA Electric Cooperative. Applicants must have taken either the SAT or ACT and provide a score report. No minimum score is required. Applicants will be evaluated based on a combination of criteria including financial need, academic achievement, personal statement and test scores.

UVA Community Credit Union

Amount: $1,500
Deadline: April 2, 2018
Applicants must be high school seniors attending Monticello who plans to attend a two- or four-year college or university in the fall of 2018. Applicants must hold a GPA of at least 2.5 and provide a transcript. Applicants cannot be an employee or child of an employee/board member of UVA Community Credit Union. Applicants must complete a 250-500 word essay answering this year’s topic question “According to Wall Street Journal, 42% of college freshman say they are ill-prepared to manage their finances. What are some things you do over the next few years to ensure you are ready to manage your own finances?”
