Opened in 1998, Monticello High School is a rural school located on 70 acres in the Scottsville District, off Route 20 south of Charlottesville. Monticello is a traditional comprehensive high school. Monticello receives students from Walton and Burley Middle Schools. Instructional facilities include science labs, computer labs, a media center, a 500-seat forum, band and choral rooms, art rooms, photography lab, cafeteria, an 800+ seat auditorium, and gymnasiums. Honors, advanced placement, dual enrollment, and special education classes are available.

A stadium with track is on the grounds. Sports fields are available for soccer, baseball, field hockey, tennis, and football. The major Virginia High School League sports offered are track, football, soccer, basketball, baseball, volleyball, cross-country, field hockey, wrestling, swimming, tennis, lacrosse, and softball. Extensive club activities including art, yearbook, newspaper, debating, languages, drama, and vocations are available. Cooperative educational programs with Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) are available. Facilities are available to the community.
