Meet the Cale EDEP Staff!

Melanie Garth: This is my first year working with Albemarle County Public Schools. I graduated from Towson University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. I have worked with school-aged children for over twenty years. I have a Lot of experience with programs similar to EDEP. When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and walking my dog. I am looking forward to an awesome year at Cale!

Sixta Arguelles: I have worked for the EDEP for three years. I am currently a teaching assistant. My hobbies are taking care of my children, and teaching Spanish to children. My favorite thing about being an EDEP employee is spending time with the students and playing games.

Karuna Howeth: My name, Karuna, means compassion. It's a name that has guided me through thirty years of learning alongside many children. I've taught preschool, and grades K-5. I'm a mother of three daughters and one granddaughter. I love nature and spent last summer camping at national parks with my husband. In this year's journey, I look forward to discovering the treasures and talents of your children as we embark on our ED-venture!

Thom Lewis: I have been working in the EDEP for over 10 years. I am a teacher working with the third grade. My hobbies are attending UVA sporting events (I am a season ticket holder in football and men's basketball), reading, travel, and playing poker. My favorite thing about being an EDEP teacher is sharing my love of learning with my students and watching an "ah ha" moment when they gain an insight into a topic.

Karen Mayry: I have worked in education for over twenty-one years, mostly in Albemarle County! I am a UVA graduate. I have worked for EDEP for as long as I can remember at Stone Robinson, Scottsville, and now, CALE! I enjoy working with children of all ages. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, running, and spending time with my family.

Susan Patton: I have been with Albemarle County Public Schools for several years. My experience ranges from grades K-12. The past few years, I have worked in Kindergarten. I am a teaching assistant in a Kindergarten classroom part time, and I enjoy assisting the Kindergartners in the after school program as well.

Jessica Powell: I have been with EDEP for three years. I currently work with the first and second grades. Some of my hobbies include video games, music, and spending quality time with my dog. My favorite thing about being an EDEP teacher is learning from the students and teaching them new skills.

Darlene Ragland:  I have been with the EDEP for a year as a substitute; however, I have been an educator with Albemarle County Schools for 18 years. I currently work as an early childhood educator assisting students with special needs, and I substitute for a special needs student in the EDEP. My hobbies are bowling, fishing, cooking, and attending church. My favorite thing about the EDEP is working with children and watching them grow.

Jacob Robb: I have been working in the EDEP since August 2017. My hobbies are building computers and playing Video Games. My favorite part about EDEP is the experiences I am making and the people I meet.

Brittany Villwock: This is my first year with Albemarle county Public Schools. I began teaching preschool in 2006; however, I wanted to work more with school-aged children, so I began my adventure at Cale. I am a TA during the day, and I work for EDEP in the afternoon. I am also a Cale Colt alumni! I enjoy crafting, DIY projects, and spending time with my family.
