At the School Board meeting on October 12, we shared our class size report alongside our published staffing standards. When you look at both side-by-side, you will note that ACPS has its own standards for class sizes that are lower than those required by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). For example, the VDOE requires an average class size no larger than 24 in kindergarten and no single class larger than 29. Albemarle’s staffing standard for kindergarten is an average of 1 teacher for each 19.55 students. In this year’s class size report, you will note that our average kindergarten class size is 1 teacher for 16.3 students.
All school levels are covered in both documents at these links. I encourage you to look them over to gain a full understanding of the exceptionally low class sizes we have in ACPS. Please feel free to send me an email.
