Community Conversation - June 10, 2026

We recognize that there are many questions and concerns regarding the recent allegations and charges against Mr. Swiney. While Albemarle County Public Schools (ACPS) is limited in the information it can legally share, we continue to cooperate fully with the Albemarle County Police Department (ACPD) and the Commonwealth Attorney's Office to support the investigation and protect the rights and privacy of all involved.

This page serves as a central location for information related to the June 10, 2026, Community Conversation, including a recording of the meeting, responses to questions submitted by community members, links to relevant communications, and information about the Family Assistance Center.

As we strive to remain as transparent as possible, we encourage anyone with questions about this situation to submit them using the form below. We will provide responses when possible; however, some questions may not be answered due to legal, privacy, personnel, or investigative considerations.

Please note that ACPS must abide by all laws and regulations regarding disclosure of personnel matters. We also cannot comment on specific allegations in ways that could compromise the investigation or legal proceedings.

Family Assistance Center

ACPS, in partnership with the Victims Crisis Assistance and Response Team (VCART), Region Ten, and other community partners, opened a Family Assistance Center to provide support and resources for families, students, staff, and community members affected by the recent charges brought against Mr. Swiney.

The Family Assistance Center will operate at Journey Middle School each Thursday from June 18 – August 6, 2026, from 12 to 2 p.m. and from 3 to 7 p.m.

Families and staff are also invited to participate in facilitated small-group discussions to ask questions, receive information from support professionals, learn strategies for supporting children, and connect with others in a safe and supportive environment.
