Objective 3.2 Strategies

Strategy 1 - Address Anticipated Overcrowding

Objective 3.2, Strategy 1, of Learning for All states:

ACPS will develop long range plans to address anticipated overcrowding issues.

The following work around this strategy was completed in the 2021-22 school year:

The 2021 Long Range Planning Advisory Committee (LRPAC) Report was completed and presented to the School Board in September 2021
The LRPAC continued to meet monthly during the 2021-22 school year and provided an updated report to the Board in October 2022

Strategy 2 - Partner With Local Government to Fully Fund Capital Projects

Objective 3.2, Strategy 2, of Learning for All states:

ACPS will partner with the local government to align and overlap strategies to fully fund capital projects.

The following work around this strategy was completed in the 2021-22 school year:

The County’s Community Development’s staff participated in the April School Board Work Session to improve connections between the development pipeline and the school’s capital plans
Ensured Community Development is aware of school impacts when considering applications and is informed where proffers would be beneficial
School Board Members participated in the joint Capital Advisory Committee to inform the County Executive’s Recommend CIP Budget

Strategy 3 - Develop and Implement Cycle for Renovations/Improvements

Objective 3.2, Strategy 3, of Learning for All states:

ACPS will develop and implement a criteria and cycle for renovations and improvements to ensure equitable and contemporary facilities as well as sustainable practices.

The following work around this strategy was completed in the 2021-22 school year:

Conducted a division-wide assessment of needs for flooring, painting, restrooms, playgrounds, HVAC systems, roofing, and desks to maintain a consistent standard across buildings
An evaluation is in progress of software to closely track quality parameters for division facilities. This quantitative data will inform scope and prioritization of future renovation work

Objective 2.3 Metrics
Funded Capital Requests: Our goal is to increase the percentage of capital requests that are funded each year.	Reduce Emissions: Our goal is to reduce carbon emissions from all ACPS buildings and facilities.
Address Capacity Issues: Our goal is to develop mitigation plans to address capacity issues at schools at or over 95% capacity.	Modernization Standards: Our goal is that all ACPS buildings and facilities meet modernization standards.
