Objective 1.3 Strategies

Strategy 1 - Develop Learning Pathways

Objective 1.3, Strategy 1, of Learning for All, states:

ACPS will develop learning pathways that align with Virginia’s career pathways, with exposure to career pathways beginning in elementary school.

The following work around this strategy was completed in the 2021-22 school year:

Developed Career Learning Communities with twelve different options for students
Communicated options to the parents of 8th-grade students, who will be the first class with the opportunity to enter Career Learning Communities
Developed the curriculum outline for Career Learning Communities

Strategy 2 - Increase Extracurricular Offerings

Objective 1.3, Strategy 2, of Learning for All states:

ACPS will expand extracurricular offerings based on student interest and increase the number of student led organizations. Participation in these activities will reflect division demographics.

The following work around this strategy was completed in the 2021-22 school year:

Developed a method to track student sport participation each year
Began planning for an intramural program in high schools

Strategy 3 - A Focus on Project Based Learning

Objective 1.3, Strategy 3, of Learning for All states:

ACPS will ensure that all students in each grade band (K-5, 6-8, 9-12) participate in at least one interdisciplinary, Project Based Learning experience focused on a community issue.

The following work around this strategy was completed in the 2021-22 school year:

Developed protocols or structures for Project Based Learning experiences across grade bands to be implemented in the 2022-23 school year

Strategy 4 - Developing Field Experiences

Work-Based Learning Program: Our goal is to increase the number of students participating in our work-based learning program.	Career Learning Communities Demographics: Our goal is for the demographics of students participating in our Career Learning Communities to reflect the demographics of the division.
Increase in Extracurricular Activities: Our goal is to increase our offering of extracurricular activities to our students as well as seeing the demographics of students participating in these programs reflect those of the division.	Students Able to Pursue Interests: Our goal is to provide opportunities so that all students are able to pursue their unique interests.
Student Volunteer or Activism Hours: Our goal is to see an increase in the number of hours our students spend volunteering or being involved with local activism.	Extracurricular Activities Demographics: Our goal is that the demographics of students participating in extracurricular activities reflects the demographics of our division.
