Strategy 1 - Social-Emotional Learning Curriculum
Objective 2.2, Strategy 1, of Learning for All states:
ACPS will adopt, implement and measure the effectiveness of an Social-Emotional Learning curriculum, including Responsive Classroom and Developmental Designs, in grades K-12.
The following work around this strategy was completed in the 2022-23 school year:
- Audited Responsive Classroom practices
- Monitored continuous professional development of new staff and ensured continued opportunities for professional development in Responsive Classroom and Developmental Designs
- Expanded the use of the DESSA tool across grade levels to provide information on our students' social-emotional learning progress and develop action plans
Strategy 2 - ACPS Student Representative Committee
Objective 2.2, Strategy 2, of Learning for All states:
ACPS will convene a student representative committee to lead the expansion and improve student representation of extracurricular/co-curricular activities and increase opportunities for interaction between schools.
No work was completed on this strategy during the 2022-23 school year.
Strategy 3 - Continue to Develop Wellness and Recognition Programs
Objective 2.2, Strategy 3, of Learning for All states:
ACPS will continue to develop division staff wellness and recognition programs.
The following work around this strategy was completed in the 2022-23 school year:
- Transformed Human Resources' Be Well programs to solely support Albemarle County Public Schools' staff
- Launched new Be Well website for employees
- Survey conducted with employees about wellness programs and what they would like to see
- Developed teacher and classified staff Employee of the Year recognition process and celebrated our first winners
Strategy 4 - Cultivate and Diversify Community Partnerships
Objective 2.2, Strategy 4, of Learning for All states:
ACPS will diversify and cultivate community partnerships that provide families with support services.
The following work around this strategy was completed in the 2022-23 school year:
- Identified families' most desired community support services
- Partnered with "Families Helping Families"
- Convened a meeting of key community stakeholders, including local government and the Department of Social Services, to discuss needs
- Events were held in the fall, winter and spring
- Created a parent/family resource page on the division website with support services information and resources
- Developed a monthly newsletter for our partners to inform them on happenings within the division and highlight opportunities for partnership

Our goal is to monitor student and family satisfaction with the division through nationally normed surveys.

Barriers to engagement
Questions around barriers to engagement asked our families about factors that may create challenged for families to interact with or become involved with their child's current school. Our families responded in a positive manner to these questions 79% of the time, which falls in the 0th to 19th percentile nationally and is a 2 percentage point increase from the last survey.
Family Efficacy
Questions around family efficacy ask our families how confident they are with regard to parenting skills. Our families responded in a positive manner to these questions 59% of the time, which falls into the 0 to 19th percentile nationally. The 2023 Spring Survey was the first survey that included questions of this manner, so we do not have comparison data from past surveys for this metric.
Family Engagement
Questions around family engagement ask our families about the degree to which they become evolved with and interact with their child's school. Our families responded in a positive manner to these questions 17% of the time. This metric is new, and Panorama does not yet have enough national data to create percentile comparisons. The 2023 Spring Survey was the first survey that included questions of this manner, so we do not have comparison data from past surveys for this metric.
Family Support
Questions around family support ask our families about their perceptions of the amount of academic and social support that they provide their child with outside of school. Our families responded in a positive manner to these questions 63% of the time, which falls into the 0 to 19th percentile nationally. The 2023 Spring Survey was the first survey that included questions of this manner, so we do not have comparison data from past surveys for this metric.
Learning Behaviors
Questions around learning behaviors ask our families about their perceptions of their child's learning-related behaviors. Our families responded in a positive manner to these questions 57% of the time. This metric is new, and Panorama does not yet have enough national data to create percentile comparisons. Questions around learning recovery ask our families about their perceptions surrounding their child's academic experience since the COVID-19 pandemic. Questions around school climate asked our families about their perceptions of the overall social and learning climate of their child's school. Our students in grades 3 through 5 responded in a positive manner to these questions 79% of the time, which is 2 percentage points higher than the fall survey and falls in the 60th to 79th percentile nationally.
School Climate
Questions around school climate asked our students for their perceptions of the overall social and learning climate for the school. Students in grades 3 through 5 responded in a positive manner to these questions 61% of the time, which is 5 percentage points lower than the fall survey and falls in the 20th to 39th percentile nationally.
School Safety
Questions around school safety asked our students for their perceptions of their physical and psychological safety at school. Students in grades 3 through 5 responded in a positive manner to these questions 66% of the time, which is 2 percentage points lower than the fall survey and falls in the 60th to 79th percentile nationally.
Sense of Belonging
Questions around sense of belonging asked our students how much they feel that they are valued members of the school community. Students in grades 3 through 5 responded in a positive manner to these question 66% of the time, which is 2 percentage points lower than the fall survey and falls in the 60th to 79th percentile nationally.
Valuing of School
Questions around a students' valuing of school asks our students how much they feel that school is interesting, important, and useful. Students in grades 3 through 5 responded in a positive manner to these questions 68% of the time, which is 2 percentage points lower than the fall survey and falls in the 60th to 79th percentile nationally.

Questions around a students' valuing of school asks our students how much they feel that school is interesting, important, and useful. Students in grades 6 through 12 responded in a positive manner to these questions 41% of the time, which is 5 percentage points lower than the fall survey and falls in the 0th to 19th percentile nationally.
Cultural Awareness and Action
Questions around cultural awareness and action ask our students how often they learn about, discuss and confront issues of race, ethnicity and culture in school. Students in grades 6 through 12 responded in a positive manner to these questions 48% of the time, which is 1 percentage point lower than the fall survey and falls into the 0 to 19th percentile nationally.
