Objective 1.1, Strategy 1, of Learning for All states:

ACPS will create a guaranteed and viable curriculum that guides the implementation of deeper learning and engagement, develops the competencies included in the Portrait of a Learner, and includes a division common assessment system. The curriculum will contain curriculum maps for core content areas from kindergarten through 12th grade based on the Virginia Standards of Learning. These maps will be accompanied by basic pacing charts aligned with the check-points provided by common assessments.

The following work around this strategy was completed in the 2022-23 school year:

• Outlined curriculum with curriculum maps and aligned those maps with our Portrait of a Learner competencies
• Finalized pacing guides for K-12 through division PLCs
• Developed division mid-year common assessments for K-12
• Established quarterly common assessments for core content

Objective 1.1, Strategy 2, of Learning for All states:

ACPS will ensure Culturally Responsive Teaching  practices are implemented in all classes and learning environments by adapting observational tools for formal and informal observations that are aligned with culturally responsive practices.

The following work around this strategy was completed in the 2022-23 school year:

• Monitored Learning Walks for implementation
• Received feedback from staff on the Learning Walk tool implementation and made additional changes based on that feedback and Bellwether recommendations
• Received feedback from staff on Employee Performance Appraisal implementation for full roll out in the 2023-24 school year

Objective 1.1, Strategy 3, of Learning for All states:

ACPS will ensure that every student participates in at least one student led conference each year.

The following work around this strategy was completed in the 2022-23 school year:

• Several schools piloted a student-led conference structure during the school year

Objective 1.1, Strategy 4, of Learning for All states:

ACPS will implement comprehensive school improvement support teams with representatives from all relevant departments (i.e. instruction, equity, etc.).

The following work around this strategy was completed in the 2022-23 school year:

• Comprehensive School Improvement Teams were implemented during the school year with representatives from all relevant departments and a focus on data-driven decision making

Objective 1.1, Strategy 5, of Learning for All states:

ACPS will Implement VDOE and Board adopted curriculum and resources with fidelity. For example, Being a Reader, Math Investigations, and Reframing the Narrative.

The following work around this strategy was completed in the 2022-23 school year:

• Monitored pacing in Professional Learning Communities through the school improvement process
• Tracked elementary reading and math data at the division level to monitor progress

Objective 1.1, Strategy 6, of Learning for All states:

ACPS will provide grade level appropriate technology experiences aligned with the state’s technology SOL standards.

The following work around this strategy was completed in the 2022-23 school year:

• Documented current computer science instruction in secondary schools
• Partnered with the Department of Instruction to align instructional technology coaching with the grade level technology standards

Objective 1.1, Strategy 7, of Learning for All states:

Conduct instructional audit with a third-party vendor to identify experiences of our students of color and provide root cause analysis and recommendations for improvement. 

The following work around this strategy was completed in the 2022-23 school year:

• Drafted a Request for Proposals to solicit vendors
• Chose a vendor (Bellwether)
• Bellwether conducted an audit of ACPS instructional practices with fidelity
• Final report was presented to the School Board on June 8, 2023
