School Naming Review: Meriwether Lewis Elementary School

At its meeting on January 12, 2023, the Albemarle County School Board formally approved changing the name of Meriwether Lewis Elementary School to Ivy Elementary School, effective July 1, 2023. The board’s action supported the recommendations of the advisory committee, the superintendent, and members of the school community.

November 14-21, 2022

In this survey, we asked respondents to choose from among five possible school names. The survey showed that 354 respondents prefer the name Meriwether Lewis Elementary School. From highest to lowest rank, Ivy Elementary received the second highest number of votes, followed by Owensville Elementary, Discovery/Expedition/Explorer Elementary and Blue Bird Elementary.
