Approved Walk Zones By School

Albemarle High School already had a walk zone that included Georgetown Green. We are expanding it out where it is safe to do so. 

There will be a Sheriff at the intersection of Hydraulic Road and Whitewood/Lambs Lane for students crossing in the morning and in the afternoon. 

No students are recommended to walk along Hydraulic Road on points north of Albemarle High School where there is no sidewalk. However, from Four Seasons Drive to Whitewood Road, there are sidewalks. Students should cross at the intersection of Whitewood and Hydraulic utilizing the controlled crosswalk that leads to the school. 

From points south, students should utilize Hydraulic Road sidewalks. Students crossing at Georgetown and Hydraulic shall wait at the stoplight and cross at the crosswalk only when the light is flashing that it is safe to cross. Proceed to AHS.

For all points east of Albemarle High School, students are expected to utilize the sidewalks on any collector road that leads to Hydraulic (Whitewood, Commonwealth, or Greenbrier) and cross utilizing the crosswalks.  

Students should use the sidewalk of N and S Chesterfield Court, which runs adjacent to the elementary school.

The walk zone for Brownsville Elementary students will extend to the second roundabout in Old Trail. Students from all collector streets should walk to Old Trail Drive and use sidewalks to walk to the top of Old Trail Drive. Take the asphalt walking path to Henley Middle School and use the sidewalks to walk to the front of Brownsville Elementary School. Do not walk in the parking lots of Henley or Brownsville or use the crosswalks in the parking lots during the morning drop off or afternoon pick up.

Only streets from Ballard Drive to St. George Avenue can walk to Crozet Elementary. Students should use the sidewalks and cross using the crosswalk located at the Field School, directly across from Crozet Elementary. It is a controlled crosswalk and staff should have a person out assisting with traffic.

Walk along sidewalks on Old Trail Drive to the top of the street. Before Rockfish Gap (250), take a left onto the asphalt walking path. Take the asphalt walking path all the way to the basketball courts behind Henley Middle School. Cross onto the sidewalk at Henley Middle School. Do not cross any parking lots. For the 2023-24 school year, the walk zone has expanded up to Brook View Road in Old Trail.

For the 2023-24 school year, Turnberry Circle has been added to the Hollymead walk zone.

From north or south, travel along Powell Creek Drive, using the walking paths where available. Students who walk to and from school must arrive and depart via the crosswalk on Powell Creek Drive and enter through one of the front doors of the school.  As some of these areas do not have crosswalks and/or paths, we encourage parents to walk with their child until they safely cross to the school side of Powell Creek Dr. or the side of Hollymead Drive with the path. Trained staff members serve as crossing guards to assist with safe passage to and from school. Crossing Guards will be posted at the cross walk on Powell Creek near the school and at other locations on or close to school grounds deemed necessary to provide a safe passage for students.

A walk zone for Journey Middle School has been added for the 2023-24 school year since sidewalks have been built along Lambs Lane. The recommended walking paths are the same as for Albemarle High School.

Continue to Journey Middle School via Lambs Lane.

For the 2023-24 school year, additional roads along Ashwood Boulevard (that do not have to cross) have been added. If traveling on Timberwood Parkway, use the walking paths. At the traffic circle, continue straight onto Powell Creek Drive. Turn left into Lakeside Middle School. Use the crosswalk on Powell Creek Drive for safe crossing. 
 
Traveling from Ashwood Boulevard, use the walking paths where available. Continue straight on the walking paths until Lakeside Middle School. Use the crosswalk on Powell Creek Drive by the school for safe crossing.

This is an established walk zone. Travel on sidewalks along Mill Creek to the school.

Students who reside in the Avinity subdivision, located adjacent to the school, will be added to the school's walk zone starting in the 2023-24 school year.
