What programs can I use? How do I get a new resource approved?
Below is a list of some of the most common applications used in the classroom.
Task | Tool |
---|---|
Outlook | |
Attendance, Student Info, Gradebook | PowerSchool/PowerTeacher |
Assessments | Illuminate |
Learning Management | Schoology (Secondary) Seesaw (Elementary) |
ACPS has made it easy for new teachers and staff to know what’s available and how to get new tools approved for use. This is an important process for a few reasons! Privacy, age restrictions, excessive advertising, and the overall quality of a tool are all important considerations when introducing a new technology tool into the classroom.
- Visit the ACPS Technology Resources Library.
- Sort, search or look for the tech tool you’d like to use.
- Take a peek at the “Requirements” (this will let you know if you need permission from your principal or families)
- Click on the Platform button (PC, iOS, Web). This will help you know where to find it and how to install it.
If you don’t see the tool you’re looking for, you can easily submit a request. Just look for the Request New Resource button located at the top of the page. From there, members of your technology team will review the tool and get back to you with a recommendation.
How can I get to the login screen for the programs I’ll use for daily tasks?
The easiest way to find applications is through our Classlink Launchpad! Classlink will be one of your default homepages, is available via a desktop shortcut, and is also in the ACPS Bookmarks folder on Chrome and Edge.
You can also find these tools on the Department of Technology’s website, on the For Staff page on the division website, on your school website and in the ACPS Technology Resources Library. As you can see there are a lot of places to find them! We encourage teachers to customize their laptops, browsers, and Classlink launchpads with shortcuts, bookmarks and more. If you’d like to work on this with someone, feel free to reach out to your Learning Technology Integrator.
How can I get support with technology?

How do I add a home printer to my child’s ACPS laptop?
- You may add a home printer to your ACPS laptop; however, the computer often will need a driver to make the printer fully functional with the laptop. If you have tried to add a printer to your child’s ACPS device unsuccessfully and would like assistance, please contact technology support using one of the following options:

- Use the online Student Technology Support Form to submit a service ticket.

What is a safe way to clean my child’s ACPS device?
Can I use my personal computer to log in to or use ACPS tools?
- All ACPS students in grades K-12 have been provided with a device that is configured to work with ACPS tools and licensed software. In addition, ACPS staff have received training to ensure that these devices function. Non-ACPS devices may not be compatible with all ACPS learning tools. Unfortunately, our staff members are not able to repair or provide support for non-ACPS, personally owned devices.
Can I add monitoring software on my student’s laptop?
- Monitoring software can impair ACPS’ ability to manage the device remotely. Such software also interferes with using the device for assessments. APCS provides a regularly monitored, CIPA (Children’s Internet Protection Act) compliant internet filter that prevents student access to harmful content and allows us to look at student internet usage when concerns emerge. We encourage families to have expectations in place for responsible use at home. We also suggest families sit with their students to have a conversation and look from time to time at what their students are doing online. Please reference our family field guide (versión en español) for additional ideas and resources to support your student’s technology at home.
