Students who join a class midyear will automatically have overdue notifications generated for any existing assignment in Schoology where the due date has passed. Assignments can be excluded for students to correct this issue. What is the difference between a Group and a Course in Schoology?
Groups are a great way to connect, communicate, and share resources with your colleagues. Some examples include grade level resources, vertical team curriculum, PLCs and extracurricular activities. All content created and shared in a group can be copied directly into your courses in just two clicks!
Courses have a handful of additional features including graded assignments and assessments, Course Analytics, and Workload Planning. Courses are created automatically and informed by your PowerSchool schedule.
How do I rename a course?
Unfortunately, teachers are unable to rename the Schoology courses that are generated by PowerSchool due to the backend cataloging of courses and how they sync with Powerschool.
You can work around this by changing your course image. This is a frequent request and ACPS has asked Schoology for this product enhancement.
How do I combine multiple course sections into one section?
If they are the same course, teacher, and school, you can link them using this guide. You can also follow this video tutorial.
If they are a different course, teacher, or school, you can request they be merged by submitting this form. You can also follow this video tutorial.
CAUTION: When unlinking or unmerging sections, only the master section retains the materials, setup, grades, and other data. Submissions and grades for any child sections will be lost. To prevent the loss of student grades, make sure to export each section's gradebook before unlinking or unmerging sections.
How do I add another staff member or co-teacher?
Go to the course "Members" and click "Add Member". Once added, you must make them an admin. In the interest of student data privacy, you should apply section level overrides for other admin in the course. This can further restrict their access to edit materials, view/change grades and such. There are multiple levels of permissions. You can learn more by following this link.
How do I add a student to my course that is not enrolled?
How do I tidy up and organize "My Courses"?
A great way is to reorder the courses so the most recent ones come first or to unenroll from courses no longer needed. Learn how

- I'm seeing {"errors":{"detail":"Failed to retrieve provider email for current user","source":{"exception":"Exception"}}} when I try to view a student's Google Assignment submission.

- Is it an expectation that current Virtual Courses run in Google Classroom be switched to Schoology?
- How can my co-teacher view students Google Drive Assignments?
I can't see the document when I open the app. What should I do?
Sometimes, errors can occur for students and instructors trying to view a Google document because:
- A student attempts to view a file and discovers they no longer have access. A Google account and/or privileges had previously given them access to the file, but now they are using a different Google account and cannot access it.
- A student or instructor attempts to view a file and discovers they no longer have access. They are logged into Schoology but are not actually logged into a Google account.
These errors are typically resolved by reconnecting the Google Drive Assignments App with force logout.
I'm seeing an Access Denied error when accessing a Google Drive Assignment. How can I resolve this?
The Google Drive Assignment app in Schoology requires 3rd party cookies to work correctly. If a student opens a Google Drive Assignment with 3rd party cookies blocked in their web browser, both the student and their teacher will see an "Access Denied" error message. To resolve the error, follow the instructions below to enable 3rd party cookies.
I'm seeing {"errors":{"detail":"Failed to retrieve provider email for current user","source":{"exception":"Exception"}}} when I try to view a student's Google Assignment submission.
This error indicates the person attempting to access the assignment is neither the document owner nor the student. This is typically seen when a co-teacher is attempting to access the assignment. To resolve this, ask the teacher who originally created the assignment to share the student submissions folder directly from Google Drive.
Student submissions are located in My Drive > Schoology Google Drive Assignments > [Course Section Name] > [Assignment Name].
If you created the assignment, then your Google account has likely become disconnected from the Google Drive Assignment App. To resolve this, follow this click path and enter your ACPS credentials. Resources > Apps > Google Drive Resource App > Options > Account Settings
None of my students can open my Google Drive Assignment. They're receiving this error message: We had some trouble opening your document. Try again by reloading the page.
This message displays when the Google Assignment app is no longer associated with the teacher's Google Drive account. To resolve this, reconnect the Google Drive Assignment app with a force logout.
How can I access Google Voice Typing and other Reading and Writing tools in Google Drive Assignments?
These features are unavailable when viewing or editing a Google Drive Assignment in Schoology. To access these features, open the document in a separate tab by clicking Edit (students) or Open (teachers). The video below demonstrates the limitations and the workaround.

Will we continue to have access to Google Classroom?
Is it possible to use Google Sites for portfolios through Schoology?
Is it an expectation that current Virtual Courses run in Google Classroom be switched to Schoology?
How can my co-teacher view students Google Drive Assignments?
By default, only the teacher that creates the Google Drive Assignment is able to view student work based on how the share settings work. To fix this:
Any teacher creating Google Drive Assignments: Go to Google Drive and find, then share edit access to, the "Schoology Google Drive Assignments" folder with your co-teacher(s).
Any teacher just viewing the student work: You will now be able to view the student's Google Drive Assignment work in Schoology.
Gradebook & Calendar Syncing
- Can I sync my Schoology gradebook to PowerSchool?
- What's the difference between "Sync Changes" and syncing an individual assignment?
- My gradebook sync isn't working. What should I do?
- How will the "missing", "excused", or "incomplete" flags transfer as in PowerTeacher?
- How do I hide the overall class grade in Schoology?
Can I sync my Schoology gradebook to PowerSchool?
Yes, your course grades can sync in one direction, from Schoology to Powerteacher. Learn how to set up Gradebook sync. You can watch a video here.
If you change a grade in Schoology, it will change the grade in PowerSchool when you sync it. If you change a grade in Powerschool, it will not change the grade in Schoology.
What's the difference between "Sync Changes" and syncing an individual assignment?
Sync Changes
Clicking the Sync Changes button or the Sync Icon in the top-right of the Schoology Gradebook will only sync new assignments and grades that have been edited since the most recent sync. Any grades, comments, or flags that have been manually entered in PowerSchool will not be overwritten if the corresponding gradebook entry in Schoology has not been altered.
Sync Individual Assignment
Clicking the Sync icon to the right of an assignment will transfer all grades and comments for that assignment. Any grades, comments, or flags that have been manually entered in PowerSchool will be overwritten. Because this type of sync overrides manually entered information in PowerSchool, it is recommended that it should only be used the first time an assignment is synced in order to create the assignment in PowerSchool and transfer an initial set of grades, after which the Sync Changes options above should be used.
My gradebook sync isn't working. What should I do?
First, follow the steps in this checklist to ensure the PowerSchool App, Grade Setup, and Assignments are configured correctly for the grade sync. If you are still having trouble, contact LMS Support.
How will the "missing", "excused", or "incomplete" flags transfer as in PowerTeacher?
When using gradebook sync with PowerSchool it is recommended to input these grades manually in PowerSchool because of how these tags transfer. If your school has a minimum grade policy, be sure to manually override the grades in PowerSchool to remove zeros.
Schoology | PowerTeacher |
"Missing" | Missing Flag and Score of 0 |
"Incomplete" | Incomplete Flag and Score of 0 |
"Excused" | Exempt Flag with no Score |
How do I hide the overall class grade in Schoology?
It is recommended that the overall class grade be hidden in Schoology since PowerSchool is the gradebook of record and there is potential for confusion when students see discrepancies between their grade in Schoology and their grade in PowerSchool.
Use Final Grade Settings within Grade Setup to hide the grades. The settings can be found in this document (requires login to ACPS SharePoint)
