August 15 is dedicated to engaging in learning together. Below you will find the schedule for the day. After our convocation at TING pavilion, you will find both the schedule for our afternoon Elementary and Secondary Professional Learning sessions.

Convocation Reminders:

Please dress comfortably and bring a water bottle with you to the event.
We encourage you to use the bus transportation that will be provided at the satellite locations for transportation to the event.
If you use the bus to transport you to the event, we ask that you use the bus for your return as well.
Please make sure to review the afternoon schedule so that you can use a satellite location that is most convenient for the day.
There is limited parking in the Water Street and Market Street parking garages. (Approx 500 spaces) The first hour is free; however, you will be responsible for covering any additional parking fees.
If you choose to drive, we strongly encourage you to carpool with your colleagues.

Elementary Social Studies Teachers (K - 2)	2 p.m. to 4 p.m.	Henley - Cafeteria, Library, Rm 59	Neeley Minton, Shay Carter-Shifflett, Katy Schutz, Sarah Kiscaden, Paula Gately, & Kate Gerry	Elementary Social Studies Guaranteed Viable Curriculum: This required session is designed to introduce teachers to the new K-2 Social Studies inquiry units that were developed by the Elementary Reframing the Narrative cohort and piloted by 40+ teachers across the division during the 2022-2023 school year. Participants will explore the “why” of the inquiry design model as the primary instructional vehicle for teaching Social Studies. These inquiry units are required for all K-5 teachers as the core component of the guaranteed viable curriculum in Social Studies. This session will focus specifically on K-2. Please note: If you attended this session in the summer, you do not have to attend this one.

Participants will leave with concrete strategies they can use in their classrooms as they teach through our local and state inquiry units and their own inquiry-based instruction that integrates questions, tasks, and sources.
