(ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Virginia)—Nominations are now open for the 2024-25 Golden Apple Awards, a program designed to honor outstanding teachers in public and private schools in Albemarle County and Charlottesville City. From now until Monday, January 27, 2025, students, staff, families, and community members may nominate a teacher for this honor.

The program, sponsored for more than 20 years by Better Living Building Supply and Cabinetry, not only recognizes the outstanding work of our teachers, but also provides each winner with a $500 grant for classroom materials or professional development.

“Each year, we look forward to celebrating the exceptional dedication of our teachers through this program,” said Dr. Matthew Haas, Superintendent of Albemarle County Public Schools. “We are deeply grateful to Better Living Building Supply and Cabinetry for their steadfast partnership in honoring the educators who inspire our students and enrich our community.”

Nomination criteria include creating a love of learning among all students, stimulating thought and dialogue in the classroom, raising student expectations for success, understanding and providing for individual student needs, and involving families in the education process. Once the nomination window has closed, nominees will be reviewed by a selection committee made up of representatives from Albemarle County, Charlottesville City, the Virginia Association of Independent Schools, and other local education-related organizations.

Nomination forms are available online at k12albemarle.org/golden-apple and at individual schools. Golden Apple Award winners will be announced in May.
