NEWS RELEASE
(ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Virginia)—Language arts learning resources for grades 6-12, proposed for adoption at the Albemarle County School Board meeting on August 10, 2023, are now available for public review. The 15 proposed texts, which build on diverse and important themes, including race, economic advantage, gender, age, and ability, and allow our students to discuss real-world issues in accessible ways, will be on display through September 11, 2023, on the third floor of the Albemarle County Office Building, located at 401 McIntire Road in Charlottesville.
Community members may review the learning resources between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except on school holidays. Upon arrival, community members should check in with the third-floor receptionist.
Feedback may be submitted via email to Monica Cabarcas at mcabarcas@k12albemarle.org.
Following the public review, staff will consider any feedback received and make appropriate recommendations for action and/or adoption at the school board meeting on September 14, 2023.
In accordance with School Board Policy IIAA, a textbook selection and adoption committee reviewed these learning resources to ensure they meet the selection criteria outlined in Policy IIAA, including overall instructional purpose, alignment with the school division’s curriculum goals, educational suitability, age appropriateness, timeliness, subject matter relevance, and product quality.
