ACPS Announces Principal Appointments for Three Elementary Schools

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. — The Albemarle County School Board appointed new principals for Baker-Butler Elementary School, Stone-Robinson Elementary School and Stony Point Elementary School during its meeting on June 11.

Effective July 1, John Wheeler will serve as principal of Baker-Butler, David Foreman will serve as principal of Stone-Robinson, and Christa Livermon will serve as principal of Stony Point.

Wheeler has served students and families in Albemarle County Public Schools for more than a decade as a teacher and assistant principal. As assistant principal at Woodbrook Elementary School, he helped lead instructional initiatives that improved student achievement and school culture through partnerships with students and families. Wheeler holds master’s degrees from Vanderbilt University, the University of Virginia and Lipscomb University. He is endorsed in administration and supervision, elementary education and English as a Second Language.

During the principal search process, Baker-Butler families and staff emphasized the importance of leadership stability, visible school leadership, strong communication and long-term commitment to the school community. Wheeler’s background in instructional leadership, family engagement and school culture development closely aligned with those priorities.

I look forward to getting to know the students, staff and families who make this community special and working together to support a strong and successful future for the school.”

Foreman, currently assistant principal at Stone-Robinson Elementary School, will be promoted to the principalship after serving in the role since 2022. As assistant principal, he has overseen instructional initiatives, student engagement efforts, hiring and day-to-day school operations. Before entering administration, Foreman taught at Brownsville Elementary School and spent more than 20 years working in communications and public relations. He holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from James Madison University.

Throughout the search process, Stone-Robinson families and staff highlighted the importance of continuity, relationship-building and strong communication. They also expressed a desire for stable leadership and deep knowledge of the school community. Foreman’s experience at Stone-Robinson and his focus on student belonging, staff collaboration and family engagement reflected those priorities.

“Stone-Robinson has been my home for the past four years, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving this community as principal,” Foreman said. “I have seen firsthand the dedication of our staff, the support of our families and the enthusiasm of our students. I look forward to building on the strong relationships and traditions that make Stone-Robinson such a special place to learn and grow.”

Livermon will bring nearly 35 years of experience in education to her new role at Stony Point, having spent most of her career serving students and families in Albemarle County Public Schools. Her experience includes work as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, reading specialist, intervention specialist, talent development teacher and assistant principal at both Crozet Elementary School and Scottsville Elementary School. She holds a master’s degree in reading instruction and an endorsement in administration and supervision from James Madison University.

During the principal search process, Stony Point families and staff emphasized the importance of visible, approachable leadership, strong instructional expertise and preserving the school’s close-knit culture. They also highlighted the importance of strong relationships, teacher support and advocacy for the unique needs of the school community. Livermon’s extensive experience as an educator, instructional leader and mentor positions her well to support the goals and aspirations identified by the Stony Point community.

The searches for all three positions began this spring and included input from staff and families through community surveys and engagement opportunities designed to identify the leadership qualities most important to each school community.
