We Need to Hear From You About Your Transportation Needs

We Need to Hear From You About Your Transportation Needs

Dear Parents & Guardians,

Albemarle County Public Schools (ACPS) needs your help. As we prepare for next school year, we need to make sure that we have the most up-to-date information about the transportation needs of every student.

What We Need from You

Please log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and complete our Transportation Request 2023-2024 form for every student in your household by June 30. This form asks only one question: Will your student need bus transportation next year? A student’s current transportation status will not automatically roll over to the new school year. We must receive a response for every student, even if the student will not be riding a bus.

To complete the form:

  1. Log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal at sis.k12albemarle.org/public (or open your PowerSchool mobile app).
  2. From the menu on the left, select Forms. (In the mobile app, tap on More in the lower-right corner and then select Forms.)
    • Note: To view the form in another language, use the preferences icon to select your preferred language.
  3. Under the Transportation heading, select the Transportation Request 2023-2024 form.
  4. Provide your response and click or tap Submit.
  5. Repeat steps 2-4 for each student in your household.

For more detailed instructions on accessing the form, please view our Transportation Request 2023-2024 Family Response Guide. If you have trouble accessing the form through PowerSchool, you can call your child’s school to respond, or you can fill out a paper copy. (Paper forms will be sent home with students.) For assistance in a language other than English, please contact our International and English Learner Office at 434-296-6517.

Please submit this form as soon as possible, but no later than June 30. Your responses will help us plan the most efficient bus routes to serve our students in the new school year. We thank you in advance for your help!

Important Notes

  • Families should complete a Transportation Request 2023-2024 form for each student in their household by June 30, 2023.
  • Due to limited resources, we continue to encourage families to transport their children to and from school, if they are able.
  • Please only request transportation if your student will regularly ride a bus. This allows us to provide consistent and reliable service to those students who need transportation.
  • Requesting transportation does not guarantee service. Our Transportation Department will follow an equitable process to assign students to bus routes.
  • Families that request transportation after June 30 will be added to a waitlist, and students will be assigned to a bus route only as space becomes available. (This does not apply to new students who register to attend school after June 30.)
  • In order for ACPS to best meet the transportation needs of as many students as possible, it is likely that some existing bus stops will relocate.
  • If a student does not ride a bus for 10 consecutive school days, we will remove the student from the bus route.
  • Bus service is unavailable to students who live in a designated walk zone. Some walk zones will be expanding, and we will reach out separately to all families that are affected.
  • ACPS will continue to provide transportation for all students we are legally obligated to transport, such as those with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) that requires specialized transportation and homeless students.

Thank you for your partnership!

Necesitamos Saber Acerca de Sus Necesidades de Transporte

Queridas Familias,
