School Board to Hold Public Hearing on Redistricting Recommendation This Thursday

Dear Crozet & Brownsville Families and Employees,

As a reminder, the Albemarle County School Board will hold a public hearing this Thursday, January 13, to receive feedback on the superintendent’s redistricting recommendation. Community members who are interested in speaking at the hearing should complete the Public Comment Sign-Up by 2 p.m. on the day of the meeting.

The board meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Those who register to speak will receive a link to join the meeting via Zoom. Other members of the public may watch the meeting live on the school board’s Media Streams page. You can click here to view the meeting agenda.

Following four committee meetings, two public input meetings, and a community survey, the Crozet/Brownsville Redistricting Advisory Committee recommended a plan that will redistrict a total of 219 students living in the Grayrock, Waylands/Bargamin, and Western Ridge/Foothill Crossing/Wickham Pond neighborhoods from Brownsville to Crozet Elementary School starting in the 2022-23 school year.

In turn, Superintendent Matthew Haas endorsed and presented the committee’s recommendation, without changes, to the school board on December 2. You can click here to view the superintendent’s presentation slides, which include background information, an overview of the various scenarios considered by the committee, and details of the redistricting recommendation. More information is available on the Crozet/Brownsville Redistricting web page.

Following the public hearing on January 13, the school board will make a final decision on the redistricting recommendation at their meeting on January 27.
