Message from the ACPS School Board

Dear ACPS Families,

We want to share an update with the Hollymead Elementary School community and the broader public.

In our recent statement regarding Dr. Matthew Haas, we said we would keep the community informed and be transparent where appropriate. We meant that, and we want to continue communicating as clearly as we can while also respecting the limits that come with personnel matters.

Principal Joe McCauley of Hollymead has been placed on administrative leave while the division reviews allegations that have been brought forward. Administrative leave is not a finding or conclusion, but it is an important step while the review takes place.

We know this is a difficult and unsettling time for Hollymead families, students, staff, and our community as a whole. Many people have questions, and we understand why. While we cannot discuss confidential personnel details or the specifics of an active review, we do believe the community should be informed when there is a change in school leadership.

Right now, our focus is making sure Hollymead students and staff are supported and that the school has steady leadership in the days ahead. The plan for administrative support during Mr. McCauley’s absence will be shared with Hollymead families and staff as soon as it is finalized. In the meantime, summer school is being supervised by the hired summer administrator. Assistant principals from other elementary schools participating in summer school at Hollymead are also rotating on-site to provide additional support.

We are grateful for the care and patience of the Hollymead community during this time. We remain committed to student safety, school stability, and rebuilding trust through honest communication and responsible action.
