Dear Staff, Students & Families,
At their meeting on January 25, the Albemarle County School Board approved the official calendar for the 2024-25 school year. The approved calendar is available to view and print in English and Spanish on our Calendars web page.
The approved calendar features:
- Wednesday, August 21, 2024, as the first day of school for students;
- Friday, June 6, 2025, as the last day of school for students;
- A traditional three-day Thanksgiving holiday; and
- A full two-week Winter Break.
We also wanted to share with you an explanation for the increased number of non-student days in the 2024-25 calendar. The calendar includes six days reserved for a combination of training, professional development, and teacher work time, in addition to three traditional teacher workdays. We made this decision based on three key factors:
- Mandatory state requirements for reading training for all teachers;
- Implementation of a new reading curriculum and materials for grades K-5; and
- Anticipation of new math standards that will require planning and training.
The Calendar Committee plans to propose fewer non-student days in future years.
