Dear Families,

If you have a child who will turn 5 by September 30, it’s nearly time to prepare for kindergarten! Registration is the first step and includes completing an online registration form and providing required documentation to your child's school. Albemarle County Public Schools (ACPS) will host Kindergarten Registration online beginning Monday, April 18, through Tuesday, May 31.

To register for kindergarten, please follow these steps:

Review admission requirements. To enroll in kindergarten for the 2022-23 school year, your child must be 5 years old by September 30, 2022, and reside in Albemarle County.
Determine your school attendance area. We determine which of our 15 elementary schools your child will attend for kindergarten based on your physical (home) address.
Prepare to present required documents. In order to enroll your child in a public school system in Virginia, state law requires you to provide certain information to the school division, including an original birth certificate, two proofs of residency, a comprehensive physical examination report, and a copy of your child’s immunization record. Families can now upload required documentation as part of the online registration process! We recommend that you gather your documentation prior to completing our online registration form. (Please note: If you do not have all of your required documentation at the time you submit the registration form, you will need to email documentation to your school registrar or contact your child's school to schedule an appointment to drop off documentation.)
Complete an online registration form. ACPS uses an online registration form to collect the information used to enroll your child in one of our schools.
