Powering Student Success With PowerSchool
Dear Families,
Welcome to our December issue of ACPS TechKnow, a newsletter showcasing the power of technology to transform learning, and the staff who are working to make it happen. This month, we’re highlighting our PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS) and the dedicated staff who keep it running smoothly.
Staff Spotlight: Cara Costello at Lakeside Middle School
Meet Cara Costello, the friendly face at Lakeside Middle School who plays a key role in maintaining accurate student records in PowerSchool.
PowerSchool manages data for over 14,000 students, tracking attendance, grades, and family contact details. As an SIS Contact, Cara ensures this data is accurate and up to date.
Office associates across Albemarle County Public Schools, like Cara, work tirelessly to keep student records current. Check out this video to learn how Cara uses PowerSchool to serve families!
“We use [PowerSchool] for everything! We’re constantly going into PowerSchool looking up information for the students, about the students… It’s really important in the beginning of the year when we send out all those notifications to the parents to say, ‘Hey… get your information updated’… for them to go in and get it updated [so] that we have the most accurate information.”
— Cara Costello
We’re grateful to Cara and all our office associates for their dedication to supporting our students and families!
Families, please notify your child’s school of any updates to your contact or address information. You can find school contact details on the Our Schools page.

Dear Students,
Welcome to our December issue of ACPS TechKnow!
Do you know that you have at least two technology heroes at your school? Every school has a Technology Support Specialist (TSS) and a Learning Technology Integrator (LTI). But which one should you go to for help? Find out below!
Your school’s TSS can help if...
- You break a part of your computer (keyboard, screen, etc.).
- Your computer no longer charges.
- The microphone or camera on your computer won’t work.
- You forget your login.
- You need to reset your password.
- You have an interest in computers and want to learn more about PC components, how they work, and general repairs.
Your school’s LTI can help if...
- You need help with using or accessing an app or program on your computer.
- You have an interest in learning more about exciting new technologies or programs.
Need to get in touch with your TSS or LTI? You can always log a support ticket by emailing ServiceDesk@k12albemarle.org!
