Dear Students, Families & Staff:
We are writing to share that the school board has approved the calendar for the 2025-26 school year. This decision reflects thoughtful consideration of community feedback and the needs of our students and families.
Key Features of the 2025-26 Calendar:
- Earlier Start and End Dates: The school year will begin and end earlier than in previous years, resulting in a shorter summer break in 2025 as we transition to this schedule.
- Winter Break: A two-week Winter Break is scheduled.
- Spring Break: Scheduled for the first full week in April.
- Professional Learning Days and Teacher Workdays: Clustered to reduce the number of four-day school weeks.
- Family Conference Windows: Expanded for flexibility in both fall and spring.
- November 4 (Election Day): Designated as a teacher workday.
We understand that adjusting to an earlier start and end date may feel challenging for some, as it shortens the summer break in 2025. However, this shift aligns our calendar with other local school divisions, including Charlottesville City Schools, and supports best practices for learning.
We appreciate your understanding and patience as we make this transition and remain committed to supporting our students, families and staff through this change.
We thank everyone who participated in the calendar development process, including those who provided feedback through the community survey. Your input was invaluable in shaping a calendar that supports both student success and family engagement.
The approved calendar is now available to view online in English and Spanish. We encourage everyone to review it and plan accordingly.
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our students’ success.
