E-Cycling

Albemarle County Public Schools now recycles all surplus computers, monitors and related equipment (E-Waste).  We are currently working with Computer Recycling of Virginia, Inc. (CRVA) to have our surplus computer equipment recycled.  CRVA picks up the equipment, then ensures that it is recycled, donated or reused, so that none of this equipment ends up in a landfill.

According to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VDEQ) E-Waste website, certain E-Waste components may contain small amounts of regulated heavy metals, including lead, silver, barium, cadmium, chromium and mercury.  Although there is currently no requirement to recycle this equipment, this is an evolving area of the state regulations, and changes are expected in the next few years.
