Objective 5: Optimize Resources

Students working together in class.

Albemarle County Public Schools prides itself of providing high quality instructional programs at the least possible cost. Continuous business and instructional improvements are considered and implemented on an ongoing basis.

  • In the most recently completed school year the school system executed a long term contract for the purchase of school buses that will save in excess of $200,000 per year.
  • The building services department entered into an agreement for the installation of solar panels on six of our schools that will not only be environmentally responsible but will also reduce our future energy costs.
  • To address unique community needs at Yancey Elementary School, a new instructional program was implemented in that school that includes multi-age classrooms.
  • To ensure that the school system also considers existing services, a program evaluation process has been put into place that will examine these services for costs, quality, and efficacy. Results and recommendations will be provided to the School Board for its consideration.
