Objective 1.1 Strategies

Strategy 1 - Deeper Learning and Engagement

Objective 1.1, Strategy 1, of Learning for All states:

ACPS will create a guaranteed and viable curriculum that guides the implementation of deeper learning and engagement, develops the competencies included in the Portrait of a Learner, and includes a division common assessment system. The curriculum will contain curriculum maps for core content areas from kindergarten through 12th grade based on the Virginia Standards of Learning. These maps will be accompanied by basic pacing charts aligned with the check-points provided by common assessments.

The following work around this strategy was completed in the 2021-22 school year:

Outlined curriculum with curriculum maps and aligned those maps with our Portrait of a Learner competencies
Finalized pacing guides for K-12 through division PLCs
Developed division mid-year common assessments for K-12

Strategy 2 - Culturally Responsive Teaching

Objective 1.1, Strategy 2, of Learning for All states:

ACPS will ensure Culturally Responsive Teaching practices are implemented in all classes and learning environments by adapting observational tools for formal and informal observations that are aligned with culturally responsive practices.

The following work around this strategy was completed in the 2021-22 school year:

Developed a Learning Walk template that included Culturally Responsive Teaching practices
Included the Virginia Department of Education performance standard for culturally responsive teaching in our Education Performance Appraisal
Analyzed our Learning Walk data and determined that this tool needed revisions for the 2022-23 school year

Strategy 3 - Student-Led Conferences

Objective 1.1, Strategy 3, of Learning for All states:

ACPS will ensure that every student participates in at least one student led conference each year.

The following work around this strategy was completed in the 2021-22 school year:

Developed a timeline for implementation of the student-led conference program to begin in the 2022-23 school year
Developed standards for student-led conferences

Strategy 4 - School Improvement Support Teams

Objective 1.1, Strategy 4, of Learning for All states:

ACPS will implement comprehensive school improvement support teams with representatives from all relevant departments (i.e. instruction, equity, etc.).

The following work around this strategy was completed in the 2021-22 school year:

Developed a structure for School Improvement Plan Teams to guide them toward common goals, strategies and metrics in all improvement plans
Continued to refine the SIP structure to align with improvement templates provided by the Virginia Department of Education
Implemented SIP Triad Teams that attended quarterly meetings, summer school improvement meetings and quarterly SIP check-in meetings

Strategy 5 - VDOE and Board-Adopted Curriculum

Objective 1.1, Strategy 5, of Learning for All states:

ACPS will Implement VDOE and Board adopted curriculum and resources with fidelity. For example, Being a Reader, Math Investigations, and Reframing the Narrative.

The following work around this strategy was completed in the 2021-22 school year:

Implemented the Guaranteed Viable Curriculum from Objective 1, Strategy 1
Monitored Math Investigations and Being a Reader curriculum using Learning Walk Templates
Tracked curriculum pacing through DPLC for secondary schools

Strategy 6 - Appropriate Technology Experiences

Objective 1.1, Strategy 6, of Learning for All states:

ACPS will provide grade level appropriate technology experiences aligned with the state’s technology SOL standards.

The following work around this strategy was completed in the 2021-22 school year:

Drafted K-5 computer science curriculum framework for standards marked as "extend" on the computer science crosswalk

Objective 1.1 Metrics

Objective 1.1 Key Metrics
On-Time Graduation Rate: Our goal is to consistently have a better on-time graduation rate than the state average.	Increase in Reading Skills: Our goal is to see and increase in the reading goals of our students.
SOLs: Our goal is to close the achievement gaps and see results that are better than the national average.	PLCs Move Up Stages: Our goal is to see our Peer Learning Communities show consistent growth through the seven stages of PLC tool.
AP Test Performance: Our goal is to return results that are better then the national average and that our enrollment in AP classes matches the demographics of the overall school community.	Learning Walks: Our goal is to have Learning Walks completed in our school show that Culturally Responsive Teaching practices are being used in the classroom.
Dual Enrollment: Our goal is to see the demographics of students partaking in our Dual Enrollment program match the overall demographics of ACPS.	Increase in Math Skills: Our goal is to see an increase in the math skills of our students.
Course Grades: Our goal is to reduce the number of secondary students with one or more course failures.	Student-Led Conferences: Our goal is to have 100% participation in our new Student-Led Conference Program.
National Student Clearinghouse (tracks post-secondary education status for up to 8 years after graduation): Our goal is to track the post-secondary education of our students to determine the rate at which they earn degrees.	Computer Science and DLI Standards: Our goal is to have 100% of our Learning Technology Integrators trained in Computer Science and DLI Standards.
