Nondiscrimination Statement

Albemarle County Public Schools does not discriminate on the basis of sex, gender, race, color, national origin, disability, religion, ancestry, age, marital status, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by law in its programs and activities, and provides equal access to the Boy Scouts of America, the Girl Scouts of the USA, and other designated youth groups.

While current state and federal law does not recognize sexual orientation* as a protected category in employment, the Albemarle County School Board believes that the principle of nondiscrimination should apply to the operation of schools and education of all students in Albemarle County.

*Definition of Sexual Orientation: One’s attraction to the same sex, opposite sex, or both sexes, real or perceived. This definition is intended to describe the status of persons and does not render lawful any conduct prohibited by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Title IX Statement

Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in educational programs or activities receiving federal funds, including discrimination in employment and student admissions. All Albemarle County Public Schools students, applicants and employees are covered by this law.
