Criteria for Evidence

Per the Code of Virginia § 22.1-254.1(C), parents may provide this evidence through:

1. Evidence that the child has attained a composite score in or above the fourth stanine on any nationally normed standardized achievement test; or an equivalent score on the ACT, SAT, or PSAT test; or
2. An evaluation or assessment which the school division superintendent determines to indicate that the child is achieving an adequate level of educational growth and progress, including, but not limited to:  
   • an evaluation letter from a person licensed to teach in any state, or a person with a master's degree or higher in an academic discipline, having knowledge of the child's academic progress, stating that the child is achieving an adequate level of educational growth and progress; or 
   • a report card or transcript from a community college or college, college distance learning program, or home-education correspondence school.

Please note that evidence of achievement is not required for students who are under age 6 as of September 30, 2023.

Please note: Albemarle County’s Homeschool Policy is currently undergoing revision to better align with the Code of Virginia. We appreciate your patience during this process, and will post the 2023-24 Notice of Intent form as soon as these policies have been finalized.

Families who intend to homeschool their child or children in the 2023-24 school year should submit their Notice of Intent by August 15th, 2023.  The Notice of Intent may be submitted using the form below.  Families may refer to the Code of Virginia for information regarding requirements for homeschooling and may email homeschool@k12albemarle.org with any questions.
