Competitive Sales

The Child Nutrition Program provides nutritious, well-balanced meals under the Federal School Meal Program while operating a self-sustaining program. To protect the integrity of the program and the benefits that it provides to students, federal regulations prohibits competitive sales of food and beverage during the meal service times. This would include any food or beverage sold in schools from 6:00 a.m. through the end of the breakfast period, and from the beginning of the first scheduled lunch period through the end of the last scheduled lunch period. Food and beverage sold during non-competitive hours must abide by the nutritional standards as defined in Albemarle County's student wellness policy (JHCF).
