2016-17 Budget Development

2016-17 Budget Development

 Budget Development Process

The development cycle for the 2016-17 budget began in August 2015 and ends in April 2016. The process includes gathering input from numerous stakeholder groups in the school system and community.

The Superintendent, taking into consideration stakeholder feedback, forms a Funding Request that is presented to the School Board (presented Jan. 19, 2016). The School Board reviews the Superintendent's Funding Request during a series of budget work sessions and a public hearing and then makes its own adjustments to the spending plan.

Finally, a School Board Funding Request is presented to the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors (presented Feb. 29, 2016), who make the final decision regarding the amount of revenue to be allocated to the school division.

Note: A complete archive of relevant budget documents, reports and presentations is maintained on the Historical Budget Documents web page.

5-Year Financial Plan, FY2017 - FY2021 (Nov. 11, 2015)

Long-range financial planning is an important component of the County’s fiscal processes. First, it brings together three major components of the County’s budget: schools, general government, and capital. Second, it provides an opportunity for discussion about important long-term priorities and creates a framework for the next fiscal year’s budget development.
