Principles of Fire Extinction
These are the 3 main ways to put out a fire:
Removal of un-burnt material from fire area.
Cutting off the supply of oxygen from fire area.
Removal of heat from the burning material/fire area.
Classifications of Fire
Good for Combustibles like paper --
THINGS THAT CREATE ASH
Good for Liquids -- THINGS THAT BOIL
Electrical Equipment -- THINGS THAT CREATE CURRENT
How to Use a Fire Extinguisher:
PULL the Pin
ONLY USE IF:
Service has been called (Dial 911 )
IS CLEAR (fight fire with your back to an exit )
extinguisher is at hand, and...
have been trained and know how to use
WATCH THE FIRE
the fire flares up again repeat the process!
you can’t control the fire, LEAVE immediately!
try to put a fire out larger than a large trash can
OUT -- CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT
