     Introduction to Fire Extinguishers

   FIRE
      Definition

  It is a chemical chain reaction which takes place with the evolution of heat and light.


Principles of Fire Extinction

These are the 3 main ways to put out a fire:

1. Starvation: Removal of un-burnt material from fire area.

2. Smothering: Cutting off the supply of oxygen from fire area.

3. Cooling: Removal of heat from the burning material/fire area.



Classifications of Fire


A Classifications: Good for Combustibles like paper --  THINGS THAT CREATE ASH



B Classifications: Good for Liquids -- THINGS THAT BOIL



C Classifications: Electrical Equipment -- THINGS THAT CREATE CURRENT

AIM


 SQUEEZE

 

ONLY USE IF:

        Fire Service has been called (Dial 911 )

        EXIT IS CLEAR (fight fire with your back to an exit )

        Proper extinguisher is at hand, and...

        You have been trained and know how to use it!

 


WATCH THE FIRE

        If the fire flares up again repeat the process!

        If you can’t control the fire, LEAVE immediately!

        Don’t try to put a fire out larger than a large trash can

        GET OUT  -- CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT
