Western Albemarle Government Students Will Participate in Model Congress Tomorrow, March 13
Tuesday, March 13, 2018, 9 a.m. to 3:50 p.m.
Western Albemarle High School Media Center & Auditorium Conference Rooms, 5941 Rockfish Gap Turnpike, Crozet, VA 22932
Approximately 260 government students will participate in this day-long event as the culminating activity in a two-week Model Congress.
In preparation for this event, students have written their own legislation and met in subcommittees to mark up and vote on legislation. Bills cover topics such as gun control, immigration, women’s health, energy policy, and criminal justice reform. The students have modeled themselves after current members of the House or Senate and chosen a party to caucus with during the process.
On March 13, students will begin the morning in full committee meetings and progress to floor sessions in both chambers. That afternoon, bills that have passed out of the House will crossover to the Senate and vice versa. The day will end with the “president” signing or vetoing their legislation.
