Schools Now Closed March 16-27. This message was sent to all families today.
Dear ACPS Families:
This afternoon, Governor Ralph Northam ordered all K-12 schools in Virginia to close for a minimum of two weeks, March 16-27, due to the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
“We are taking this action to keep Virginians as safe and healthy as possible, and to minimize exposure to COVID-19,” Governor Northam said. “I recognize this will pose a hardship on many families, but closing our schools for two weeks will not only give our staff time to clean and disinfect school facilities, it will help slow the spread of this virus.”
Pursuant to this order, Albemarle County Public Schools (ACPS) will close their school buildings beginning tomorrow, March 14, with the following exception:
School buildings will be accessible to staff and families who need to pick up personal belongings or medications during normal school hours on Monday and Tuesday, March 16 and 17. After that point, school buildings will not be accessible.
All department (non-school) offices will remain open and accessible for the duration of the school closure.
From March 14-27, all weekend, evening, and after-school activities are canceled, as is all community use of ACPS facilities. Our EDEP holiday program will not operate.
ACPS will use this time to perform a deep clean of our facilities and for ongoing planning. We are working closely with the Virginia Department of Education to determine the best way to minimize disruption to learning and also to ensure that students in need have access to meals over the closure. We will share more details as those plans evolve.
Please note: Kindergarten Registration will not be held on March 18. We will reschedule at a later date.
