Final Public Meeting of Cale Renaming Advisory Committee Now Scheduled for Wednesday, September 11
(ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Virginia) – The Chair of the Cale Renaming Advisory Committee, Dennis Rooker, said today that the next public meeting of the committee, scheduled for August 15, will instead take place on Wednesday, September 11. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in Room 241 in the County Office Building at 401 McIntire Road in Charlottesville.
Rooker said a combination of scheduling conflicts and the need for further study by committee members necessitated the new date. On September 11, committee members are expected to make a recommendation to Dr. Matthew Haas, the Superintendent of Albemarle County Public Schools, on whether the name of Cale Elementary School should be changed.
In a note to the committee, Haas told members that their charge is contained in the school division’s renaming policy: “If a school is named after an individual, the committee shall examine whether the individual, on the whole, has made outstanding contributions to the community or made contributions of state, national or worldwide significance in light of the Board’s adopted vision, mission, goals and values.”
“I thank you again for all the time, effort and thought you are spending in your work to help me by presenting your findings to me regarding the name of Paul H. Cale Elementary School,” Haas said to committee members.
