Adaptation of Award-Winning Musical “The Addams Family” Comes to Western Albemarle Beginning Thursday, March 12, through Saturday, March 14

(ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Virginia) – From March 12-14, the Western Albemarle High School (WAHS) Drama Department will be staging its interpretation of The Addams Family for its annual spring musical. The musical, which is directed by WAHS performing arts instructor Caitlin Pitts, is an upbeat and fun representation of the iconic family that has been made famous in comics, cinema and television.

The Addamses, who are a notoriously gothic and macabre family, are cast in a bright light in this production. “Even though the family is considered dark and weird, they really love each other and have great loyalty to each other,” said Pitts. “This family can actually teach us a great deal about family values, particularly in an age where the meaning of ‘normal’ and ‘typical’ is constantly changing,” she continued. The musical shows the fun-loving side of this otherwise unusual family.

The musical’s three lead cast members, senior Henry Davies and juniors Halle Brockett and Baylee Hughes, are experienced members of the WAHS Drama Department. In addition to being one of the musical’s lead performers, Hughes also directs the musical’s choreography. This talented group of students along with the entire cast bring their veteran performance skills to a production that is student led in many areas.

One of the highlights of the performance is a tango, a partner dance that most high school aged students likely do not know. According to Pitts, “The students continually impress me with their professionalism and hard work, and I love to see the family they become for each other through the whole process.”

Tickets to the musical are on sale now. The cost for students and senior citizens is $6.00 in advance and $8.00 at the door. Adult tickets are $12.00 in advance and $14.00 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at https://events.ticketprinting.com/event/The-Addams-Family-Musical-37104.

Admission to the Thursday, March 12, showing of the play is by donation only, and proceeds will go to the Suicide Prevention Awareness Resource Council (SPARC). More information about SPARC can be found at https://www.sparchope.org/.
