2019-20 Calendar Development

Each year, the Joint Albemarle County/Charlottesville City Schools Calendar Committee works to produce a school calendar that supports our goals to engage students, improve opportunities and achievement, and get the most productivity out of our resources.

Approved 2019-20 Calendar

On December 13, 2018, the Albemarle County School Board approved Draft 3 of the 2019-20 School Year Calendar:

Calendar Drafts

Draft 3 - prepared Dec. 7, 2018

In response to Draft 2, which was presented to the School Board as an Information Item on December 6, 2018, Board members questioned why some religious, cultural and holiday observances were listed, but not others. To avoid the inadvertent omission of such important dates for any county resident, the School Board voted only to list those dates on the calendar that are specific to school programs and events. Draft 3 reflects this decision and will go before the School Board as an Action Item on December 13. View Draft 3 »

Draft 2 - prepared Nov. 27, 2018

More than 70% of the calendar survey respondents indicated that they were either satisfied or very satisfied with Draft 1. After all 527 comments from the survey were categorized, the Calendar Committee opted to address a prominent request to spread out our professional development days a bit more. In response, the Committee moved the School-Based Professional Development Day previously scheduled on September 20 to September 30. Draft 2, which includes this single change, went before the School Board as an Information Item on December 6. View Draft 2 »

Draft 1 - prepared Oct. 16, 2018

Community feedback is an essential part of the calendar development process. The Calendar Committee launched a public survey to gather feedback on its initial draft of the 2019-20 School Year Calendar from November 2-16, 2018. View Draft 1 »

Calendar Survey

The purpose of the calendar survey was to collect community input on the Calendar Committee's initial draft of the 2019-20 School Year Calendar. In total, 1,018 students, parents, employees, and community members reviewed Draft 1 and provided feedback over a two-week period, from November 2-16. Thank you to everyone who participated for engaging in the calendar development process.
